Expedition against the French fortress of Louisburg in Nova Scotia leaves Boston.

Commanded by Sir William Pepperell, it is made up of a combined force of Colonial and British troops, was supported by Gov. William Shirley and authorized by a one-vote margin vote of the General Court. After initiating a siege on May 1, 1745, expedition captures the fortress on June 16, 1745.*
